Ethereum Blockchain in Refugee Assistance Program

On May 1, the UN took a step towards the start of an excellent initiative: the refugee assistance program, called “Building Blocks”, was launched. According to the main source about cryptocurrency and the CoinDesk blockchain technologies related to it, the basis of this initiative is the use of Ethereum Internet money.

The scheme of work is simple: cryptocurrency at its face value will correspond to the local currency. It is distributed between points of sale located in refugee camps. The cryptocurrency will be implemented through the technology of scanning the retina (used by IrisGuard), as well as a special blockchain system, the development of which was worked by Datarella, UN WFP, as well as Parity Technologies.

The amounts that are distributed among the participants in this program are, of course, not disclosed: the blockchain system reliably maintains the confidentiality of information. building blocks will last longer than a month.

The runway manager, Human Haddad, believes that the future lies in innovative cryptocurrency technologies. Although today stores working with runways do not accept virtual money, in the coming years, blockchain systems will be more often used in settlements.

Thanks to the program, about 10,000 refugees will receive assistance, but the project will be able to help 100,000 by August, and by the end of 2017, feed all those in need in Jordan. There are plans to launch Building Blocks in more than eighty WFP participating countries.
